Sir:-

In reply to Your Honour's letter No.6 of the 15th in-

stant, I have the honour to forward copy of two minutes by

the Attorney General, dated the 22nd and 20th instant in

which I concur. The Officer mentioned in Sub-clause 2 (4) of

the braït Article amending the Order in Council uealing with

deportation should, however, be the Harbour Master, not the

Captain superintendent of Police.

2. I am much indebted to Your Honour for the attention

which you have given to this subject and I am especially

glad that you propose to give effect to what I believe to be

the only proper and feasible course, namely that deportation

should form part of the sentence passed by the Court at

Shangnai.
