work out to Y 1.143 per 100 kin of sugar.

Now under the old system of passing sugar over

No.8 standard as under No.8, an unfair advantage of

Y 2.50 per 100 kin was obtained; supposing therefore

that this system was in vogue to any great extent the

sugar industry would lose the difference between

Y.2.50 and Y.1.143 on every 100 kin that was improperly

classified.

If, however, the rate on sugar under Dutch

Standard No.15 is reduced from Y 5.50 to Y 5, the 50

sen thus saved would make the net loss per 100 kin

only .857 sen.

Taking this for granted the press calculates that

the mills will still make an average profit of Y 2.50

per 100 kin.

For next year it is stated the production of

Formosan sugar will amount to more than 1 million
