As representing the Owners of the
s. s. 'Patshan', we venture to solicit your good services te
bring to the notice of the Portuguese Consul at Canton the
present feeling of dissatisfaction that prevails amongst
the Chinese at that port with regard to the onission to
try, in the Portuguese Court, the Portuguese Watchman
who is accused by Chinese fallow travellers of having
maltreated a Chinese passenger on the 'Matshsa' on the
30th November 1908, mhich assault, it is alleged, causei
the death of the uafortunate passenger la mestion.
The Chinese in Canton are strongly of opinion that
the Portuguese Consul has not treated their representa-
tioas on the subject with that dus ooasideration which
the 0319 ismanis, sai they are most lasistent that the
oase should be tried by him and settled on its merits.
Any representation that you can make to the Portu-
guese Consul on the subject will be greatly esteemed by
H. Fox #Q..
