REPORT OF THE MEETING OF THE SELF GOVERNAUT SOCIETY
HELD TO DISCUSE THE CALUMNIES OF THE PORTUGUESE CONSUL.

The Self Government Society yesterday afternoon
held a public meeting in commoction with the "Futshan”
to discuss the slanderous statements and procraa-
tinations of the Portuguese Consul. The meeting was
throwrod.
The proceedings opened with speech s by Hu Høin
Tong, Chan Wai Po, Chan Chuk Chao and Tam hao Pu, emphas- ising the importance of the Fatshan" case, and mentioning
the excitement and indignation aroused in Chinese both ut
home and abroad by the repeated and unprincipled landers
of the Portuguese Consul. The applause shook the building.
At 2 o'clock the boll formally op ning the
meeting was rung and Mr. Chan Wai Po was elected to the
chair.
The speaker Lo Suo Ao first explained the object
