"Hatshan" trouble.

As representing the owners of the "Fatahan", we
venture to solicit your good services to bring to the
notice of the Portuguese Consul at Canton the present
feeling of dissatisfaction that prevails amongst the
Chinese at that port with regard to the omission to try,
in the Portuguese Court, the Portuguese watchran who is
accused by Chinese fellow travellers of having maltreatod
a Chineso passonger on the "Fatshan" on the 30th. November
1908, which assault, it is allqṛed, caused the death of
the unfortunate passenger in question.
The Chinese in Canton are strongly of opinion that
tho Portuguese Consul has not treated their represontat-
ions on the subject with that due consideration which the
Case demands, and they are most insistent that the case
