Dear Sir,

Your letter of 18th May addressed to r Addis has been

It is noted that the following resolution

laid before my Directors.

was to be moved by you at the Meeting of the Paris Directors held the next day, viz;-

"The nomination of the Engineer-in-Chief being accorded to "the Chinese Central Railways for the construction of the prolonga- * tion of the Hankow-Chengtu Line beyond the Hupeh Province, it is "understood that the Chinese Central Railways will appoint a "French Engineer for the first half of this line. If this first "half does not amount to 800 kilometres a French Engineer will be " eventually appointed for any extension prolongement or branch of

this line up to a total length of 800 kilometres."

In reply I am to say that the London Directors agree to

the above resolution, it being understood that the "extension prolonge-

ment ou embranchement" referred to is an extension starting from some

point on the said "premiere moitie" of the line.

I am, Dear Sir,

Yours faithfully,
