Sir:-
I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your
Note of the 3rd. Instant on the subject of the proposed
appointment of a Commission to consider the subject

of putting into force the provisions of the Anglo-
Chinese Commercial Treaty of 1902, in so far as they
deal with the revision of the Chinese Customs Tariff
and the abolition of Likin.
I have the honour to inform you that a report on
this subject from His Majesty's Minister at Peking is
now on its way to me and that I will lose no time in
making a further communication to you on the question
when that report is received.
