The Purtuguese Minister called to-day with u

long telegram from his Govermont on the subject of

the prosent situation at facio.

According to this telegram the Portugusus Consul

at Canton had infomed the Governor of Macao of the

rumours of un impending attack on that place. The

Governor in ruply stated that he did not regard such

en attuck we probable but would, as a precaution,

like the gmbout, which had been at Maquo but was now

at Hongkong, dont back to the former place. The Por-

tuguope Covernment had refused this request on the

ground that they had agreed, as part of the arrange-

mant concluded at lisbon, to the withdrawal of the

gunboat and that they saw no adequate reason at pre-
