SECTION 1.

Dear Sir,

Messrs. Samuel and Co. to Foreign Office.-Received March 27.)

Shell House, 104/5, Bishopsgate Street Within, London, March 26, 1909.

WE are in receipt of your letter of the 26th instant, and have to express our thanks for the information contained in the same.

We quite appreciate, in view of the position with regard to the British and Chinese Corporation and the French Syndicate, that Sir J. Jordan cannot support our repre- sentative in the Hankow-Canton Railway Loan, but that he will generally state that

our firm are of a standing to be able to carry out their contracts.

We are telegraphing to our representative, Mr. McGregor, in Peking to-night. Thanking you for your courtesy and assistance, we remain, &c.

(Signed) M. SAMUEL AND CO
