A telegram from Germans in Berlin states that in con- sequence of announcements in the Press and by the Agent of the British and Chinese Corporation that they will cancel their offer, whica, witdout our assistance, they would not be able to carry out, the signature of final Agreement is being pressed for by Chinese Government. In these circum- stances, they state, that they must give their representative
instructions to sign Agreement.
In reply British group have protested empratically, an- nouncing that undertaking to maintain status quo would be
directly violated by such proceeding and that further nego-
tiations would be rendered useless.
