a usual one in the circumstances; it is desired in the interests of an economical and honest construction of the railway, and for no other reason whatever; and it works quite satisfactorily on the Canton-Kowloon Railway.

Sir John Jordan requests his Excellency Liang Tun-yen to bring these facts to the notice of the Grand Secretary, who no doubt has no other desire than to serve the same end as Mr. Bland, that is to say, the economical and honest construction of the railway.
