I have the honour to report that a serious anti-
foreign agitation has for the past month been in
existence in Canton, the ostensible cause of which
has been the death on November 30th last of a Chinese
passenger on board Westre.utterfield and Swire'ɛ river
teamer "Patshan". Follow passengers of the decaased
asserted that is death had been caused by a Portuguese
