Telegram from Foreign Office to Sir J. Jordan, No. 14
dated January 15th, 1909.
Railway Loan.
See my telegram No. 12 of the 13th instant.
The British and Chinese Corporations reply is
being sent to Berlin this evening. It is to the ef-
fect that as it is evident that the loan which is re-
ferred to is that which is being negotiated between
the Chinese and the Corporation's representative for
the Canton-Hankow line, and as this line falls within
the British sphere as defined in the Agreement of 1898
between Great Britain and Germany, the Corporation hope
that when the German Syndicate receive this information,
they will decline to offer for the loan.
