I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of
His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Cox's letter of the 8th
Janusry last (43471/1908), transmitting by direction of the Earl of Crewe a copy of a despatch which His Lordship has addressed to the Governor of Hong Kong with regard to the opium question.
My Lords note the assurance that has been given to the Colonial Government as to the grant of assistance from the Imperial Exchequer towards making good the loss of revenue directly resulting from the measures to be adopted under the instructions of His Majesty's Govern-
ment.
