BOARD OF TRADE,
(COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT),
GWYDYR HOUSE,
WHITEHALL,
LONDON, S.W.
5th October, 1909.
I am directed by the Board of "rade to advert to
your letter of 2nd March last (No.7440) on the subject of
the proposed Convention with Japan for the mutual protec-
tion of Pritish and Japanese trade marks in China and
Cores, and in rely I am to state that they concur in Sir
E. Grey's proposal to agree to the suggested postponement
of negotiations in this connection so far as regards
Cores.
The board have carefully considered the provisions
of the Draft Convention submitted by the Japanese Govern-
ment to the Government of France and sugrosted by the
former as a basis for negotiations with his ajesty's
Government, and they now desire me to offer the following
observations on the different Articles comprised therein
Article I. Subject to the omission of the word s
*and Corea", article I of the British Counter Draft sub-
mitted to the Japanese Government in August last seems to
cover all that is contained in Articles I and III of the
Draft Franco Japanese Convention, except in so far as re-
lates to Inventions and Designs which the board of "rade
considor should be included.
It is equally explicit and as a form of words
appears
The Under Secretary of State,
Foreign office,
3.
