girders each with a plate floor running right across as per sketch and a handrailing on outside.

4.

Sufficient service bolts should be sent out for the 100 foot span and one 20 foot span.

5. I am in receipt of copies of specification for rails

and fastenings and note that you are adopting a different pattern fish plate and fittings from that originally sent

out.

As I presume it is an improvement I am putting the new pattern into the main line and keeping the old pattern for sidings. The adoption of a new pattern however will be a

serious inconvenience when asking for renewals.

6.

I brought to Mr.Barry's notice when here the

standard dimensions isued by the Board of Comunications

Pekin with reference to the coning of the tyres of the

driving wheels of locos. The Chinese type shews these

tyres flat but it is the usual practice to cone them and

to tilt the rail to a cant of 1 in 20 approximately. Barry advised me to adze the sleepers to a cant of 1/8 inch

in the width of the flange. This I have started.

PROGRESS REPORT

Mr.

going except on the Tunnels.

8. In Kowloon Station Yard the quantity done during

the month dropped to only 580,000 cubic feet. The coolies

came back to work very slowly the rock drillers especially

being very behind hand. Very little was done on the sea
