I am designing the superstructure of the end
platform to auit these dimensions, I would like the
drawing of the underframe sent out however as soon as
possible.
4. I have not been able to decide on a system for
lighting the carriages yet. The Engineer-in-Chief of
Chinese Section is against electric light on account of its
great initial cost. Pintsch's gas system is also expen-
sive on account of the plant necessary to make the gas
which prohibits its use on a small Railway.

On account of the long tunnel I certainly think
that electric light is the best as it can be so easily
switched off and on. As it is necessary to have all the
through stock on the same system I will endeavour to get
Mr Grove's approval of the adoption of electric light in
which case I would ask you to send out the dynamo and
accumulators and any fittings below the timber floors.
Any globes and wiring in the body of the aarriage will
be done out here.
