With reference to your letter No. 46598 of the 23rd ultimo, respecting the proposed typhoon shelter at Hong Kong, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to request that you will inform the Secretary of State for the Colonies that their assent, communicated in Admiralty letter M.11599 of the 10th ultimo, applied only to the revised scheme submitted by the Consulting Engineers
36969 in their letter of 8th October.
The former scheme marked "B" is open to the
objection that the southern entrance abuts close to the
Northward of the men-of-war anchorage off the Royal Naval Depot, and there would be barely sufficient room for the
usual swarm of junks seeking shelter to make for the
entrance without risk of fouling His Majesty's Ships lying
at the buoys in the man-of-war anchorage.
I am,
sir,
Agents
The Under Secretary of State,
COLONIAL OFFICE.
Your obedient Servant,
C. 1. tras
