With reference to paragraph 2 of
my Despatch No. 12 of 12th. January, 1909, I have the
honour to enclose a block plan shewing the proposals for
utilising the area which has been granted as a site for
the University to the best advantage.

The designs for the main building,
together with the houses for the professorial staff &c.,
have been the subject of prolonged and most careful con-
-sideration, and it has been decided (a) that the students
residential quarters should be separate from the main
building: (b) that it is highly desirable to provide a
Univer
playing ground within the Varsity precincts and under the
eye of the staff: (c) that every available foot of space
in the vicinity of the main building should be reserved
for future extensions as they may be required. The play-
-ground itself will be available for such extensions if
absolately
