5 JAN 10

Government House,

Hongkong, 3rd.December, 1909.

With reference to paragraph 2 of

Your Lordship's Despatch No. 214 of the 22nd. of last

September, I have the honour to report that, as no Officer

is available to act for Mr. J. W. Lee-Jones as Deputy

Registrar and Accountant, it has been necessary to arrange

that Mr. G. A. Woodcock should devote half of his time to

his duties as Chief Clerk at the Magistracy and spend the

remainder of his time at the Supreme Court as Deputy

Registrar and Accountant, the post in which he was acting

at the date of his transfer to the Magistracy.

2.

This arrangement throws extra work

both upon Mr. Woodcock and also upon Mr. C. A. D. Melbourne,

the Deputy Registrar and Appraiser, and I have therefore

permitted Mr. Melbourne to draw one-quarter of the initial

pay of Deputy Registrar and Accountant, i.e. £8 15 •

($100) per mensem, in addition to his om salary: and Mr.

Woodcock
