Chief Resident Engineer!:

office,

Kowloon, dated 22nd.October,1909.

To the Honourable

The Colonial Secretary.

sir,

Not much damage was done by the typhoon to

the Railway works. The chief damage was in the nature of slips

in the unfinished cuttings and the new banks. The stone pitch-

-ing resisted the waves wonderfully well and only in a few

places wehere on new banks was any damage done.

Work had to close down in Beacon Hill

Tunnel because no one could work outside tipping the excavated

material or loading bricks for the masonry.

I have ato.,

(sd.) G. W. Eves,

Chief Resident Engineer.
