In further explanation of items
Nos. 50 and $1 in the enclosure to my Despatch No. 330 of
the 11th. November, 1909, I have the honour to forward the
attached statements of the damage done by the typhoon of
the 19th. and 20 of last October. I enclose also a copy of
my letter to the Commodore dated the 29th. of last October,
and of Commodore H. Lyon's reply dated the 2nd. ultimo

No positive information has
reached me that any lives were lost in the storm. The two
Destroyers sent out by the Commodore brought in one dis-
-abled junk and rendered assistance to several others and
the Tug "David Gillies" hired by this Government for the
purpose also brought in one junk and rescued 52 men from
various other junks. The hire of the "David Gillies" cost
$500 and I also authorized the expenditure of $113 in
purchasing
