of my representation of what took place at e verbal interview,

I have felt obliged to assert what ry own recollection is.

4.

In reply to paragraph 4, I did not consider

that any precedent was necessary, and the leave Your Honour

asked for was ap, roved without demur. Circumstances which arose

later shewed the inconvenience which it was expected would

arise from Your Honour's return to the Colony for a day or two

After having left it on leave, these difficulties have now been

satisfactorily met.

5.

With reference to your paragraphs 5 and 6

I am unable to admit that any Civil Servant can "come to an

arreement" with the Governor 9 months ahead of the date on

which he desires to ro on leave. The rent of leave to any

Civil Serv nt (including the Governor) is subject to the

exigencies of the service, and the utmost that it is possible

for me to do is to promise provisionally to the circumstances

of the time when the leave falls due. This is I think so

universally understood as not to require repetition. See

Colonial Regulation 98 ko.

6.

In regard to the sim of £50 which Your

Honour refers to I am prepared to recommend to the Secretary

of State that it should not fall upon Your Honour.

The Chief Justice.

I have etc.,

(sa.) 9. D. Tairard,

Governor, Ac..
