OP Y.

Hon. Colonial Secretary,

Since writing ry minute of th. instant,

Mr. Keegan of Keegan and Rosencrantz, introduced by a letter

from Mr. Fuller, has seen me and given me more detailed

particulars of this matter.

It seems that his Firm are the sole agents

one of

or salesmen for the United Wireless Telegraph Company

the largest, if not the largest, companies in the States,

£4,000,000 capital they want to establish stations in the

East and he is in communication with the Authorities at Shanghai

Bangkok, Saigon, Hanoi, Manila,

&C.

They desire to establish a

station at some high point, such as Victoria Peak and High West,

convenient for telephonic communication, &c. They would register

here as a Company.

They would of course work under the Radio-

telegraphic Convention and the Government would take over the

establishment in war time &c. and also have proper control of

it; their business would be to supply messages mostly to ship-

-ping people as they would he in connection with ships.

As they do not expect the busineɗ to pay

for some time, they would not put down a very large establish-

-ment, say a 5-Kilowatt Machine equal to over 1,000 miles

radius, and, as their message rates would be under the Telegraph

Companies, they hope to get business in time when they would

increase their installation.

They would rent or lease apparatus and men

to work it to ship■, such sets could be put in in 24-30 hours

while ships are in harbour.

They hope the Government would not charge,

in view of getting all messages and communications, including

weather reports, delivered free of cost, for the land for the

station which would consist of two fairly high masts 300' apart

and a small house for their workmen.

They would be able they hope to couple to

Java and they consider Hongkong logically the centre station for

wireless
