RECO

80P 16 SEP 09

Victoria Gaol,

3rd. August, 1909.

I beg to report for your information that, yesterday at about 2.45 p.m. a party of twelve, seven members of staff and five friends left Blake Pier on a junk picnic, went to Gindrinkers Bay, anchored, some of the party were fishing and some were bathing, when an alarm was given that Warder Cocks was in difficulties, one of the party Mr. Elms who was close to him went to his assistance got hold of him by the arm and got his head above water, when Warder Cocks was strugg- -ling he caught Mr. Elms in the stomach with either his knee or foot and winded him, and Mr. Rims had to let go his hold, and Warder Cocks was not seen again, everything was done to save him, others dived continually looking for him with the all of their clothes and boots on but to no avail, so we searched around for him for an hour with no sign and we then returned to Hongkong and I reported the case to the Police.

I am Sir, etc.,

(sd.) H. J. J. Gast,

To the Superintendent.

Warder.
