Hallifax's lapsing half-pay both for the period during
which he discharged singlehanded the duties of District

Officer and Assistant District Officer, and for the period

during which he acts as District Officer only. These two
posts, though the one is senior to the other, are at
present allotted the same salary and the Officers holding
them discharge identical duties. Pending any alteration
in the status and emoluments of the District Officer, I
submit the foregoing proposals to Your Lordship's favour-
-able consideration as the circumstances are somewhat
unusual.
