In reply to your letter of the 14th instant I am
directed to inform you that, subject to the sanction of the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, His Excellency the Governor
is prepared to offer the use of the Belillos Reformatory to the
Eyre's Diocesan Refuge on the following conditions viz :-
(a) that the Government may resume possession at any time
on 6 months notice: and that, if resumed, the buildings must be
handed over to the Government in good repair. It will be
understood that the Government will exercise this right if the
establishment were not conducted on lines that the Government
approved, or if the Refuge failed financially and became a
tax upon the Government.
(b) that it is used as a refuge for women ari children,
including a home for European women of bad character who desire
to refern.
(c) that the Registrar General and any other officer acting
under the Government's instructions has access at all times
to the institution for purposes of inspection.
(a) that the Governor may, if he sees fit, appoint an
officer on the Committee of the institution.
