sir,

Enclosure

244

District Land Office,

Hongkong, 14th. May, 1909.

C.O 19718 1

Race 6 SEP

may be made in the 1910 Estimates for the addition of the

following officers to the Staff of the Hongkong District Land

Office.

One European Land Railiff,

Two Chinese Demarcators.

The former, has, in my opinion, long been

necessary for the proper control of a District, of which New

Kowloon is a portion. The one Bailiff attached to the Surveyors

Office of the Public Works cannot possibly do the work required

of him (vide the case of "Rennie's Farm" C.S.0. 1036/04 E.)

The appointment will be rendered practically

indispensable by the intended sale of one of the Police Launches.

At present a very large amount of miscella-

-neous Bailiff's work is done by the

two Police Launches and

the work has recently received a considerable increase by the

addition of the Hang Hau Peninsula to the Southern District.

With only one Launch to patrol all the area now patrolled by

Launches Nos. 1 and 2, it will be impossible for the Police to

undertake
