I have the honour to request that provisions
may be made in the 1910 Estimates for the addition of the
following officers to the Staff of the Hongkong District Land
Office.
One European Land Railiff,
Two Chinese Demarcators.
The former, has, in my opinion, long been
necessary for the proper control of a District, of which New
Kowloon is a portion. The one Bailiff attached to the Surveyors
Office of the Public Works cannot possibly do the work required
of him (vide the case of "Rennie's Farm" C.S.0. 1036/04 E.)
The appointment will be rendered practically
indispensable by the intended sale of one of the Police Launches.
At present a very large amount of miscella-
-neous Bailiff's work is done by the
two Police Launches and
the work has recently received a considerable increase by the
addition of the Hang Hau Peninsula to the Southern District.
With only one Launch to patrol all the area now patrolled by
Launches Nos. 1 and 2, it will be impossible for the Police to
