Received 9 AUG 09
Government House, Hongkong, 9th July, 1909.
I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your Despatch Confidential of June 11th, covering a letter and report from the Consulting Engineers of the Kowloon-Canton Railway. Your Lordship had already informed me by telegram dated 11th of last June of the conclusion which the Consulting Engineers had arrived at in reference to Mr. G. V. Eves and you enquired whether I concurred in calling upon him to resign, and in the appointment of Mr. Lindsey as his successor.
2. In reply to this telegram I informed Your Lordship that I had accepted Mr. Eves's resignation. I was, however, in some difficulty regarding the proposed appointment of Mr. Lindsey since I was already in direct communication with the Indian Railway Board (in accordance with your telegram dated the 8th of last February) with a view to the selection of a suitable man.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF CREWE,
