the whole Colony and throughout the New Territories.

It is mainly worked on the Metallic Circuit

The Descriptions of the Companies supplying

Electricity are as follows, as taken from Lloyds Greater Bri-

-tain.

Electric Traction Company:

The total length of single trarway line is

144 miles and it is laid over 94 miles of route.

The gauge of the track is 3' 6" with rails

of the Girder type weighing 86 lbs. per lineal yard.

The cars are run on the overhead trolley

system, the rails acting as an uninsulated return.

The trolley wire is divided into half mile

sections by means of section insulators, and at each of these

points the main feeder cables are tapped for current.

The pressure at the trolley wire is 500

volts.

The Generating Station situated beside the Bowrington Canal, is as nearly as possibly in the centre of the

system.

The Engine room contains two Dick-Kerr continuous current, direct connected generators of the Multipo- lar type, compound wound, giving a potential of 550 Volts and running at 100 revolutions a minute. They are designed to run

either separately or in parallel.
