Government House,
Hongkong, 29th June, 1909.
I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your telegram dated June 11th, in which you desired me if I concurred to call upon Mr. Eves to resign his appointment, and informed me that the Consulting Engineers proposed to appoint Mr. Lindsey to succeed him, and to discharge the duties of "Traffic Expert".
2. In accordance with your instructions I had already entered into direct communications with the Indian Government with a view to the selection of an Officer as Traffic Manager, and Expert Adviser in the negotiation of the Working Agreement. The Indian Board had replied with great courtesy asking for certain information before selecting an Officer, and this information was supplied in a Memorandum by me forwarded in a letter from the Colonial Secretary of 15th April, 1909. A copy of this correspondence was forwarded to Your Lordship's Department.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF CREWE,
