Such an appointment would ensure continuity in the work of the Attorney General's department, and would much facilitate the work of an acting Attorney-General in the event, which occurs frequently, of the Attorney-General being either absent on leave or acting for one of the Judges.

If such an assistant were appointed the Attorney General might be allowed private practice, but I do not think that any reduction in the salary of the principal law officer would be advisable even if it were possible.
