private practice unless he had assistance. I assume, however, that the Retrenchment Committee contemplate that he would himself engage the services of an Assistant.
11.
The matter had engaged my attention before I received the recommendation of the Committee and I had formed the opinion to which I adhere, that it is not advisable to allow the Attorney-General to engage in private practice. Court work only forms one branch of the Attorney-General's duties and that perhaps not the most important, and it is always possible for the Government to retain the services of a local Barrister to assist him in an important case in Court. Though I am unable to recommend the adoption of the Committee's proposal, the matter is of such importance that I have thought it advisable to submit it to Your Lordship.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient,
humble servant,
Banger
