I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of
letter 9303/07, dated 21st. April, 1909, and beg to be allowed
to point out what, to me, seems a misconception, in paragraph 3.
2.
If my own appointment is confirmed by the
Secretary of State, substantial promotion will be given to the European Staff only in the event of Mr. Woodcock's non-return
to Queen's College. Should he return as Second Master, the
other European Members of the Saff would hold exactly the same
positions as they did before Dr. Wright left the Colony.
3.
In connection with paragraph 4 of the same
letter, I would also crave permission to point out that Mr.
Woodcock has had earlier but not longer service in the College,
than the two Masters named. Thus:-

Mr. Woodcock assumed duty on 27th. April,
1890, and was transferred, as Secretary, to the
Sanitary Board, on 21st. March, 1900. This gives
him a total service, in Queen's College, or a bare 9/2 years. He was on half-pay leave for 16
months in 1896-7 which reduces his effective
Full Pay Service here to 8/2 years.

Mr. Ralphs joined us 23rd. March, 1898, and
is still here. His total service is one of 11//2 years. Deducting 134 months' half pay leave, his
effective Full Fay Service roundly is 10 years.
