In reply to Your Lordship's Despatch No. 49 of the 12th, ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that the Crown Solicitor does not hold his appointment under Agreement. He was appointed on the recommendation of Sir Henry Blake contained in Despatch No. 47 of the 10th. of February, 1900, and approved by Mr. Chamberlain in Despatch No. 86 of the 30th. March, 1900.

The appointment is on the temporary establishment and no special conditions, except the privilege of private practice, attach to it.
