1698 to 200:
(d) The sterling pay is inadequate considering the increasing
cost of living; and the cadet in such pay can have no
reasonable expectations of being able to marry with any
view to prudence and comfort before the age of forty to
forty-five, when he may reach a second-class post with a
salary of £600.
(e) We are at a serious disadvantage compared with cadet and
other officers doing the same or similar work.
If these grounds are not held to warrant a reconsideration
of the sterling scheme as applied to cadets, I would at
least ask that if an officer has been drawing an increment
as Passed Cadet, he may be allowed to take the first incre-
ment on his promotion to a Permanent Post, in order that
he may not be a loser thereby.
