osmium, –

me to conceive how malaria is produced in such places

as Heat and Central Africa, British Guiana &c., which for many centuries have been fed with the soluble tetroxide from decomposing rocks in the mountain ranges.

Water is the great carrier and distributor of this soluble tetroxide of osmium, and the culminating effect of drinking such water is illustrated by the fact once told me, of

outbreak of malarial fever among the crew of a sailing ship, some months after her departure from port, at sea,

infection by mosquito

where possible.-
