With regard to paragraph 3 of Your Excellency's letter under reply, Mr. Seth's complaints of the Colonial Secretary's attitude with regard to him were referred to in the first page of the memorandum accompanying my letter of 1st instant last, and this has doubtless escaped Your Excellency's attention. In paragraph ... of my letter to which this paragraph of Your Excellency's letter referred, I have put down almost the identical words used by Mr. Seth. I quite appreciate the fact that Mr. Seth's own version does not agree with mine.
4. With regard to Mr. Seth's letter, copy of which is annexed to Your Excellency's letter under reply, I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that the statements of fact contained in paragraphs 2 and 4 are untrue, and that those relating to the Colonial Secretary's attitude with regard to him do not coincide with his statements made to me. I make these statements as well as that contained in my former letter because they accurately represent the origin of the trouble, and as Chief Justice of this Colony, I must request Your Excellency to accept them as such.
