The only applicant in the Colony for Colonial employment (not in Hongkong) is Mr Holborow who desires an appointment in Northern Nigeria. I forwarded this gentleman's application in my despatch No.163 of 15.6.08, to which your Lordship replied in your Despatch No.154 of 24.8.08.

Army Officers seconded for employment in Colonial Civil Service.
The only two officers so employed are Captain A.J. Thompson R.A. Adjutant Hongkong Volunteer Corps, and P.H.M.Taylor 32nd Lancers, Aide de Camp.
Captain THOMPSON. Capt. Aubrey Julian R.A.
The General Officer Commanding and the Commandant of the Hongkong Volunteer Corps both confirm in every way the report which they submitted to me last year, and which is enclosed with my Confidential Despatch of the 13th May 1908 - in regard to Captain Thompson; and I entirely concur with them.
TAYLOR. Capt. Percy Henry Mitchell 32nd Lancers.
I have nothing to add to my report on Captain Taylor of the same date. He has continued to discharge his duties to my entire satisfaction, and does not lose his keen interest in his profession during the past year.
