$751,000. The passenger Station would be awkwardly

situated and as the Director of Public Works' figures shew,

the real cost would be greater to Government since more

valuable Crown Land would be occupied than under the pro-

posed scheme.

The existing Railway Estimates do not

provide for either the cost of land resumption for the

station, or for the Station Buildings. As it had hitherto

been assured that a permanent and expensive Station would

be built instead of a temporary one as now proposed, the

cost involved by the present proposals are actually less

than might have been anticipated under any other scheme. If

the cost of Crown Land bo included the schemes are

estimated by the Director of Public Works as follows:-
