(under that Head of the Railway Estimates) viz.:- $350,000 more than suffices for the land actually required for the Station site which is estimated at $332,000. The balance ($18,000) added to the estimated saving of $270,000 on Station Buildings is available to meet the cost of Workshops (estimated at $120,000) for which no sum has hitherto been provided on the Railway Estimates, and a final saving of $168,000 will be affected in the present total of the Estimates under these two heads (Station and Shops). In a separate Despatch, however, I am informing Your Lordship that the revised Estimate prepared by the Chief Resident Engineer to accompany his report for 1908 shows an increase of about 1 million dollars over the revised Estimate of last year, bringing the total estimated cost of the Railway exclusive of the resumed lands not immediately required and including the reduced Estimate of the Station Buildings to 11 millions. The alternative of debiting the cost of the whole of the resumptions to the Railway Loan, results after including the cost of Workshops in an increase in the Railway Estimates of $287,167.
