the Chief Resident Engineer for the Chinese Section, to construct the bodies for the coaches for that section locally. A design based on the designs used for the Shanghai-Nanking Railway has been mutually agreed upon by him and Mr. Eves and approved by myself; while the under-frames, bogies, brakes etc., have been ordered from England through the Consulting Engineers.

4. Dr. Barry when here examined the designs, and instructed the Chief Resident Engineer to transmit them to the Consulting Engineers for remarks. He did not suggest construction in England and so far as I am aware fully concurred in the proposal that they should be constructed locally.
