as Puisne Judge during the absence on leave of Mr. A. G. Wise. Mr. Craig returned from leave on the 14th instant and from that date Fr. Melbourne has acted as Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court only.

From 17th August to 17th September, Mr. J. R. Wood acted as Second Police Magistrate and as Inspector of Schools, his substantive post of Assistant Land Officer, Southern District of the New Territories, being held by Mr. D. Tratman. The arrangement was due to the absence on full pay leave of Mr. Wolfe who was acting as Inspector of Schools and to the absence on half-pay leave of Mr. F. Hazeland, Second Police Magistrate.

From 30th October to 13th November Mr. J. R. Wood acted as both First and Second Police Magistrate during the absence of Mr. J. H. Kemp on full pay leave. During the same period Mr. Melbourne assisted Mr. Wood as Magistrate in addition to discharging his duties at the Supreme Court and the Gaol.

As regards salary the following arrangements were made:-
