From the block plan it will be seen that the Building is so designed as to admit of subsequent extension to about double its initial size. Should further accommodation be required in the more distant future, the space on the upper stories at present devoted to dormitories can be utilised for lecture rooms &c., and outbuildings can be erected for residential purposes.

(c).

From the same plan it will be seen that the scheme includes the laying out of the ground, a Swimming Bath and Gymnasium, Tennis Courts and Bowling Green and an Entrance Lodge. (The Anatomical Laboratory is not included.)

The Director of Public Works estimated that these Buildings would cost not $150,000 as estimated by the Architects, but fully double that sum. Sir Mody thereupon undertook to provide them whatever the cost and that they should be built in a thoroughly substantial manner creditable to the object in view.

Your Lordship is aware that there exists an Institution here called the Hongkong College of Medicine for the training of Chinese in Western Medicine. It was started 20 years ago and many "Licentiates" have been trained, who have done useful work but are not of course
