6. With reference to the third paragraph of your letter under reply, I shall be glad if I may be permitted to defer my attendance at the Board of Trade until the 18th September, if that date is not considered to be too late.

7. I have to request your instructions as to the date of my departure for Hong Kong. I am prepared to take up the duties of the post on the 1st January next, and subject to your approval, propose to sail at the end of November.
