TREASURY CHAMBERS,

9 March 1908.

Treas 7285

Sir,

I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Antrobus' letter of the 27th ultimo (6543/1908) and its enclosures, further relative to certain information desired by the Governor of Hong Kong respecting the population and taxation of certain large towns in Great Britain.

In reply I am to state, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that the returns prepared by the Local Government Boards of England and Scotland, when taken in combination with the statements furnished by Treasury letter 1508/08 of the 28th ultimo, appear to afford all the information which it is possible to supply to the Governor of Hong Kong in answer to his enquiries.

The enclosures to Mr. Antrobus' letter are returned herewith.

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

W. Blain
