In the

shall be exempt from British stamp duty.

Hong Kong Ordinance it is provided that a transfer of

a share registered in a local register shall, unless

executed within the Colony, be exempt from stamp duty.

4. The Board of Trade suggest that it would be better

to provide specifically, as is no doubt intended, that

the exemption shall be from stamp duty of the Colony

of Hong Kong.

5. I am to point out that there seem to be two clerical errors in sections 4(4) and 4(5) of the

Ordinance of 1907. The numbers of the sections of

the Ordinance of 1865 therein referred to should apparently be 32 and 31 respectively instead of 40 and

39.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

G.R. Barnes

The Under-Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,

Downing Street, S.W.
