The view taken by his Lordship is that it is impossible to maintain a staff at Tientsin owing to the cost entailed falling upon the taxpayers of the Colony, and therefore it will be closed at the end of September unless steps are taken to safeguard the Colony against loss. Accordingly, enquiry is being made as to whether their Lordships are willing to agree.
