I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to inform you that the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury have authorized the grant of a Fee of Five hundred Guineas in respect of your services on the Opium Commission at Shanghai.
The cost of your passage to and fro will be defrayed by this Department.
Whilst on board ship you will be entitled to Wine Allowance at the rate of Three shillings and sixpence a day, and your incidental expenses on the journey will be made good to you.
You will also receive a subsistence allowance of Two Pounds a day during your stay at Shanghai and a sitting room will be provided for the use of the British Delegates.
