Sir,

Foreign Office, September 11, 1908

WITH reference to the letter from this Department of the 22nd ultimo, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you herewith a copy of a letter which has been received from the Colonial Office on the subject of the representation of Canada and Australia on the Opium Commission which is to meet at Shanghae on the 1st January next.

Sir E. Grey proposes, with Viscount Morley's concurrence, to inform the Earl of Crewe that there is no objection to the course suggested in the Colonial Office letter.

In view of the early date at which the Commission is to meet, Sir E. Grey would be glad to be favoured with Lord Morley's views with as little delay as possible.

I am, &c. (Signed) F. A. CAMPBELL.
